Alrighty My People,
Two updates:
As far as school work and marks etc, it's still the status quo, which is that I offer / provide stuff to do and you opt in or out. I and your SB teacher keep you updated. But I need to know that you are receiving these messages, even if you're opting out of school work. This is the law - think of it like attendance. But you only have to acknowledge receipt once. The following people MUST reply to this message, so I know you're alive, and informed: .... Please include your preferred email address so you can receive all future communications. If anyone knows their preferred emails, please forward them to me. I do need to legally ensure that everyone is at least getting the information, per the Minister's guidelines. You can catch up on any missed messages on the homepage at msauveenglish.com.
See the bottom of the page for a reminder of your academic or enrichment options.
On this week's blog, as promised, I have "Listen to Something". I have two entries on my life in music with links to a bunch of albums on YouTube. One from 1980 to the early 90s - basically high school and college, and one from the last 10 years or so. This was a fun exercise, and though it took me a long time to complete, it was a good distraction, going down memory lane and listening to a lot of music. Blowing the dust off some of my CDs, and reminding myself why I bought them in the first place. Please don't ask what's an album or a CD. Being 51 is bad enough!
So this week, I challenge you to think about your life in music - what would a timeline of your life in music look like? An autobiography or musical memoir of sorts. Check out QuestLove's here as inspiration.
ZOOM
So we had 8 out of the 14 people who said they wanted to Zoom meet last Friday. My apologies if you tried to get in and couldn't and gave up. I had inadvertently started another meeting to practice, and didn't realize you couldn't get into one meeting if another was 'going on'. At any rate, I fixed the problem and had a nice catch up with these 8 students.
These OG 8 as I'll call them, or el ocho, the octet, the gameful eight... suggested that we do some low stakes reading and writing - ie some fun discussions on a text and maybe some quickwrites and sharing... with absolutely nothing to do with this pandemic. (Also Tumblr, but I'm still working on that... for next week).
For this week. Zoom will happen twice:
With me
Thursday at 3:00pm So for this discussion we'll explore language, how it evolves, what it means, how we use it, what it says about us and so on... Kind of from a philosophical perspective. Read this article about Shakespeare and watch this spoken word poem "Native Tongue" by Micah Bournes. We'll use these as the sparks for our conversation.
Optional add-ons, if you're really into it, read a bit about the history of this branch of philosophy here, or listen to these intellectuals discuss is on YouTube here (everything sounds better with a British accent, especially if he's sporting a 70s hair cut, and wearing flare pants and smoking jacket) or watch this Crash Course also on YouTube.
Quickwrites I'll lead on the spot, so have your pen and paper ready, and be prepared to share.
I will send you the link and password.
Waiting Room is enabled, so if I don't recognize your email, you're not getting in. If your name is not in your email, please make sure you RSVP to this email with your handle, so I'll know to admit you.
With gr 11 teachers
Friday at 7pm. Many gr 11 teachers will be in the meeting and have prepared trivia for you. This is a pop-in party style and strictly for fun and laughs. So far we have Mr. Borland, Mr. Sav, Ms. Harper, Ms. Babin, Mr. Kennedy, Ms. Evans, Ms. Barrette, Ms. C Rennie, Ms. Marino, Ms. C (she's back!), et moi.
I will send you the link and password.
RSVP: If you'd like to join, please let me know so that we have an idea of numbers. And, please help us spread the word so that we can be as many people as possible.
Ms. Sauvé
Reminder of your academic or enrichment options for you:
Two updates:
- If you do not have a computer, internet, or a quiet place to work and be productive (should you choose to), please let me know, as the Minister is trying to provide support for students to be able to learn from home.
- Be prepared for when you can return to school to retrieve your materials, that you also return all CVR books / textbooks that you have borrowed this year. We don't have a date or system for this yet, but I'm asking you now so you can look around for all the books you borrowed, put them in one spot, and be ready to bring them to school when you come to empty your locker.
