Hello Grads,
Well we have reached the 3-month mark. Believe it or not. Week 12. Feels like yesterday and forever ago at the same time. We are heading into the home stretch on this school year (even if it may have been over for you for a while). What's to celebrate this week? Sons of Anarchy is on Netflix! Woohooo! Violent biker gang show, so watcher beware. But Charlie Hunnam? Yes Maam. I've wanted to watch it for a long time. Now if only The Wire would end up on Netflix... A girl can dream. Added corn and roasted red peppers to my tomato soup recipe and now I've got a taste of Mexico. Delicious. I'll enjoy it while I can 'cause once the hot weather hits, it probably won't be soup time anymore. I've got two herons showing up regularly now: a white one and a blue/grey one. They are appropriately named She-ron and He-ron respectively. Mowing the lawn is my workout for the week. Ouch. At some point I'll have to attack the weeds. #mediocregardengoals.
A couple of pieces of news:
Yearbooks
Your yearbooks are still coming in; they will arrive in September. There are a few extras so if you hear of anyone who wants to reserve one, tell them to email Ms. Babin. Also she would like any photos you may have of your sports teams or groups, games, school events and so on to help fill out the sections that would have been filled by these lost months.
Class of 2020 Valedictorian
Brian Sproule has been named your valedictorian. Please send him your congratulations. This is a very high honour and one that takes a tremendous amount of hard work to achieve. The number one criterion for this nomination is to be at the top of your class academically (based on grade 10 and 11-to-date overall averages, and it does factor in the difficulty level of the program stream you're in). After that, CVR has three other criteria: you have to be involved in and contribute to school life; you have to be seen as representative of your graduating class; and, you have to be able (and willing) to write and deliver a great speech. Teachers, coaches and advisors decide this honour and take into consideration all your years at CVR in all the ways that staff has observed you in action and interacted with you. When Brian does get to deliver his speech, he'll need stories and input from all facets of CVR life, so if you want to jog his memory, make sure to reach out - especially if it's funny (and grandma appropriate).
You'll see in the photo on Facebook or the CVR website, that teachers house-bombed Brian to surprise him with the good news. We also wanted you all to know that we ARE working towards your graduation. We are quite sure we will have a full and proper ceremony in the fall when we're all allowed to be sitting close together again (hopefully), we don't want to compromise on the celebration, the pomp, or the circumstance. But, in the meantime, the Minister just announced that we can organize something at school so that you can come and say a proper goodbye (keeping public health guidelines and physical distancing in place). A team of teachers has already been working on this (just in cases), so stay tuned. We are working for you.
Trivia
In case you missed it this week, try this game of trivia connections. You get one point for every correct answer, and 5 points if you can guess the connection. So all the questions in each set are based on something they have in common....can you find the pattern in each set of questions? Trivia questions courtesy of Ms. Bussey, Ms. Harper, Ms. Chow and Ms. Sauve.
Have a great week.
